Well the click rate improved but how did it affect the sale ? Did you notice more real customers entering the site or just lurkers.

Hi Philip - Thanks for the comment - good point about the number of keywords used in search terms increasing. I must check that the default wording works well for our keyword insertion ads. I found some nice stats on the number of keywords used in seach here : http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/keyword-stats.html?date=2009-04-01

Hi Anthony - Thanks for the links and for the tip on the capitalisation. I have changed that now and look forward to even higher CTR!

Hi Aedan

Just an added note to the above use of Dynamic Insertion into your AdWords. If you capitalise the "W" in the word KeyWord, then all of the words in the search term that triggers the advert will also be capitalised.

For example in your example above, if you change the Dynamic Insertion code to be Buy {KeyWord:Kids Rain Gear}, the Title in the resulting advert would read "But Baby Rain Wear".

Capitalising all of the words in the ad will result in higher CTR!

II wrote about this at http://www.online-marketing.ie/articles/undocumented-adwords-trick-that-can-increase-your-click-through-rate.htm

And Google have written about it at http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=12396

I'm glad you found our posts useful!

We've got more posts planned on AdWords so keep an eye out.

Keyword insertion is a very powerful tool, but really works best in ad groups with a very narrow range of keywords to keep the matches as relevant as possible.

Also, as the number of keywords people use when searching is increasing, it won't be too long before keyword insertion will only be possible in a minority of cases, so you need to make sure your default text is as relevant as possible too.
